1970s — Establishing a Reputation

Throughout the 1970s, Gallery Watatu grows steadily into one of Nairobi’s leading commercial galleries. It attracts both local and international visitors while providing exhibition opportunities for an expanding community of East African artists.

The gallery begins developing a reputation for showcasing original contemporary African art alongside works by established regional artists.
